I am 20 and have never read. I think writing is hard?

I have never read due to poor education. Despite that, I can read fast with 90% comprehension (estimate; may be more or less). I always see all these convoluted, concise and wonderful replies to questions and the fun people have on forums but I am always scared to post because my writing is faltered due to confidence and lack of skill. If I start reading a lot will it help me write better in every day life? I am being skeptical of either it will or not... but I want your opinions.
