yes, there are the rare killers that do break their habits...but this is rare. most of the time there is a clear pattern. however, killers that are facing death will often claim to have killed other victims in order to get benefits and better treatment, or perhaps just because they want to enhance their "fame". it could have been the work of another killer, who knows? these people are very sick mentally and if they go a while without killing, they get desperate. he may have just gotten her because she was a target of opportunity. most of Budy's killings were well-planned. he would often lure females away from others and get them alone, however towards the end he got desperate and sloppy. there is the one instance where he tried to drag a female into his van, kicking and screaming, during broad daylight! naturally, he was very desperate and this was a foolish act by him, but he couldn't help it. he was mentally f*cked up and his urge overtook him. so yes, sometimes killers do break their patterns if they are extremely desperate.
